Taking your dog or cat from Dubai to United Kingdom

Every step for this route, dated backwards from your flight and sourced to United Kingdom’s own authority. Build the timeline first; the detail is below it.

[ quick answer · 2 september 2026 ]

The UAE is a listed country for Great Britain, so no rabies blood test is needed. The sequence is microchip, rabies vaccine, a 21-day wait, a Great Britain pet health certificate issued within 10 days of arrival, and for dogs a tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before arrival. Pets arrive as cargo on an approved route.

Cabin or cargo, and who will take which breeds

Pets arriving in Great Britain by air must travel as cargo unless on a private charter or as an assistance dog. From Dubai that means Emirates SkyCargo or a partner carrier into an approved route such as Heathrow. Snub-nosed breeds are refused by Emirates SkyCargo outside November to April, and the Heathrow Animal Reception Centre handles clearance on arrival.

What goes wrong on this route

Three ways Dubai to UK usually fails

The tapeworm window

The dose has to land no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before arrival, and be written on the certificate with the time. Book the vet visit against the arrival time, not the departure time.

The 10-day certificate

The pet must enter Great Britain within 10 days of the Great Britain pet health certificate being issued and endorsed. A weekend, a public holiday or a delayed endorsement eats that window fast.

A vaccine before the chip

If the rabies vaccine was given before the microchip, it does not count. The vaccine is repeated and the 21-day wait starts again.

Do it yourself, or use an agent?

An honest answer for this route

Yourself, with the Plan · AED 1,499

You attend every vet visit and the MOCCAE examination anyway. With the dates and the documents in hand, the Dubai to UK route is manageable on your own if your flight is more than 6 weeks out.

Yourself, checked · Assured AED 3,499

Same route, but a UAE-licensed vet partner checks each document at 3 checkpoints and we submit the MOCCAE certificate. Sensible when the windows are tight: on this route, the 10-day Great Britain certificate and the tapeworm dose.

An agent, or Handoff · AED 6,999

If your date is inside the minimum, your breed is restricted, or you cannot attend the airport day, an agency or our Handoff tier is the right call. We say so rather than sell you the Plan. Either way, read what airport day at Dubai looks like before you decide.

Straight answers

Dubai to UK: what people ask

Does my pet need a rabies blood test to enter the UK from the UAE?

No. The United Arab Emirates is on Great Britain’s list of countries whose pets enter with a Great Britain pet health certificate and no blood test. The vaccine still needs 21 full days before entry.

Is there quarantine on arrival in the UK?

Not if every step is met. Pets that arrive without the right documents can be quarantined for up to 4 months at the owner’s cost.

Can my dog fly in the cabin to London?

No. Pets arriving in Great Britain by plane must travel as cargo unless it is a private charter or an assistance dog.

How long does the whole thing take?

From an unvaccinated pet, about 4 weeks: 21 full days after the rabies vaccine, then the certificate issued within 10 days of arrival. If your pet is already chipped and vaccinated, it can be done inside 2 weeks.

My pet was microchipped in another country before we moved to Dubai. Does that chip count?

Yes, if it is an ISO 11784/11785 chip (15 digits) that a vet in Dubai can read, and the rabies vaccine on the record was given after the chip was implanted. If the chip is not ISO, Great Britain lets you bring your own scanner, but the airline and MOCCAE still have to read it in Dubai; most owners in that position have an ISO chip added and the vaccine repeated. Ask your vet to scan it and write the number and the implant date on the certificate.

What happens at the airport in Dubai?

Your dog or cat travels as manifest cargo. You take the crate and the documents to the airline cargo terminal, the staff check the certificate, the microchip and the crate, and you say goodbye there; you do not go airside. The full walk-through is in our airport day guide.
