Which destinations require it from the UAE?
Australia (RNATT, then a mandatory 180 days from the sample reaching the lab). The USA (the UAE is on the CDC high-risk list; the sample must be at least 30 days after vaccination and at least 28 days before entry). Not Great Britain and not the EU: the United Arab Emirates is on their listed-country schedules, so pets enter with a health certificate and no blood test.
When should the blood be drawn?
After the rabies vaccine has had time to work. CVRL advises at least 21 days; the CDC requires at least 30 days; Australia says 3 to 4 weeks after a first vaccination. Then the destination counts its wait from the draw, so the draw date sets the earliest flight.
Where and how much?
Central Veterinary Research Laboratory, Zabeel 2, Dubai. FAVN method, ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited, recognised by MOCCAE, the EU and the CDC. AED 750 per sample excluding VAT. 1 to 2 ml of clear serum; results released within 3 weeks; no express service.
What if the result is low?
Under 0.5 IU/ml means revaccinate and retest. For Australia that restarts the 180-day count from the new sample. Plan the first draw with margin.
How long does a result stay valid?
For the USA, for the life of the dog as long as vaccination cover does not lapse. For Australia, 12 months from the sampling date, and the import permit expires with it.
