What happens if your pet’s paperwork is wrong at the airport

[ quick answer · 2 september 2026 ]

In Dubai the airline refuses the animal at cargo acceptance. At the destination: Great Britain can quarantine for up to 4 months or refuse entry; the USA holds a dog without a valid titre for 28 days at your cost; Australia can extend quarantine, re-export or euthanise; India deports a pet without an Advance NOC. All at the owner’s expense, and almost always traceable to one step done in the wrong order.

At Dubai

Emirates SkyCargo checks the MOCCAE certificate, the destination documents, the fit-to-fly statement, the microchip and the crate at acceptance. A missing or expired document means the pet is not loaded and you rebook, usually with new certificates because the old ones have timed out.

Great Britain

Your pet may be put into quarantine for up to 4 months if you do not follow the rules, or refused entry if you travelled by sea. You are responsible for any fees or charges.

The United States

A dog from a high-risk country without a valid rabies serology titre must complete a 28-day quarantine at a CDC-registered animal care facility, at the importer’s cost. A dog without a facility reservation cannot enter.

Australia

If you fail to comply with your permit conditions, your dog may be held longer in post-entry quarantine, subject to additional testing, exported or euthanised. You will be liable for any costs involved.

India

Any passenger attempting to import a pet without a valid Advance NOC, or using a forged or altered NOC, is issued a deportation or re-export order by AQCS. A pet that fails the arrival examination is quarantined 15 days.

The single cause

A vaccine before the chip. A titre drawn too soon. A certificate issued outside its window. A tapeworm dose on the wrong day. Every one is a sequencing error, and every one is preventable with the dates in the right order. That is what the free timeline is for.

Are there fines?

The UAE dangerous-animals law carries fines for possession offences, and destinations recover their costs from the owner. We do not publish specific penalty amounts we have not verified against the authority’s own page.
