IATA crate size calculator

Four measurements in, minimum internal crate dimensions out, using IATA Container Requirement 1 and the 10% uplift for snub-nosed breeds.

[ quick answer · 2 september 2026 ]

IATA Container Requirement 1: internal length equals the pet\u2019s nose-to-tail length plus half its ground-to-elbow height; width is twice the shoulder width (three times for two animals); height is the standing height to the ear tip plus bedding. Snub-nosed breeds need a crate 10% larger.

Can two pets share a crate?

IATA allows compatible animals of the same household in one container with a wider crate (C × 3). Carriers apply their own limits on weight and size; confirm before you buy.

What if the crate is too small at the cargo terminal?

The pet is not accepted that day. Measure standing, round up to the next standard size, and let the pet use the crate for two weeks first.
